The Regional Water Supply System for the Montenegrin Coast Ltd. welcomes the fact that the Committee on Tourism, Agriculture, Ecology, and Spatial Planning supported the Proposal for the Law on Amendments to the Law on Regional Water Supply System for the Montenegrin Coast, as well as the Proposal for the Law on Amendment to the Law on Environmental Impact Assessment, at yesterday’s session. The proposed laws were presented to the Committee members by the State Secretary and Head of Negotiating Chapter 27 and Cluster IV, Nenad Vitomirović, emphasizing that the proposed amendments are aimed at overcoming normative and financial challenges in the application of the existing legal framework. We assess as particularly important that, through the extension of the deadline for the collection of the special fee, conditions are created for the long-term financial sustainability of the regional water supply system, bearing in mind that the existing deadline expires in 2027. year. This ensures the stable functioning of the system, regular maintenance of infrastructure, and continuity of the realization of started and planned investment projects. We remind that in 2019, the Regional Water Supply System for the Montenegrin Coast entered into a credit arrangement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development worth 12 million euros for the beginning of the realization of the second phase of the regional water supply system, one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the field of water management in Montenegro. The support of the Committee represents a confirmation of the strategic importance of the Regional Water Supply System for a stable and high-quality water supply of the Montenegrin Coast, especially in the context of further development of tourism, economy, and local communities. Simultaneously, the amendments to the Law on Environmental Impact Assessment represent an important step towards full alignment of national legislation with European standards and further improvement of environmental protection. The Regional Water Supply System for the Montenegrin Coast will continue to responsibly realize development projects of public interest, with full commitment to the improvement of water infrastructure, preservation of the environment, and secure water supply of all users on the Montenegrin Coast.
